📄 Project Abstract

Understanding language distribution across the world is integral to the linguistics research area (Wolfgang & Cermáková, 2007). Due to the lack of available data for all languages, it can be incredibly difficult to get accurate data on the number of language speakers across the world. As a result, many languages are not fully understood in terms of how widely used they are over the world. This project demonstrates how data mining tools and techniques can be used to overcome this issue by acquiring data from search engines to represent the distribution of world language. The creation of an application to automatically retrieve this data will be build to speed up the process. The finding from research into data mining and data extraction concluded that the Cross Industry Standard Process for Data Modelling (CRISP-DM) methodology will be used throughout the project. The data collected will represent the total number of websites returned from search engines on the web. This data will then ...
