From time immemorial, the struggle for power (political and otherwise) and supremacy between men and women has never abated. This is especially so with the rise of modern democracy and despite the attempts of Civil societies and international regimes to address this prejudiced and biased culture, the struggle by women to make their voices heard in the mainstream of participation in social, political and economic spheres of the society has been a perpetual feature of universal human development that has remained unhinged. There is a global recognition that gender equality in political participation is a fundamental aspect of contemporary democratic governance, with that being said, it is expected that both genders should have equal rights to participate at all levels of political process and have equal opportunities to social services.
