📄 Project Abstract

There are a variety of different methods which can be used to plan a journey on the UK rail network. These include visiting a local travel shop and discussing journey plans with a travel advisor, or using National Rail Enquiries (NRE) either online or over the telephone. Alternatively there are third party ticket retailers such as thetrainline.com which can also be used. Whilst the information made available is useful, it can be difficult for the traveller to compare different journeys, find out which routes are fastest, and where the train stops, as the information is obtained sequentially, rather than in parallel. This requires the traveller to remember the different journey options and make their own decisions about which train to take. To the uneducated traveller it might be the case that the train they set out to catch is running late, or performs a high number of stops and so takes a long time to reach the destination.
