TrustMessage: An alternative to email

Electronic mail (email) is a very old system and has developed many problems since it was designed, as outlined in this report. The most noticeable problem for users of email is the amount of unsolicited bulk email that a user may receive. This system is too inflexible to be modified in order to solve these problems [12] and an alternative must be developed. This project designs and develops a possible alternative to email that solves, or reduces the impact of, some of these problems and provides enough flexibility to account for future problems by taking advantage of technology that was not available when email was designed, such as XML. This system is called TrustMessage because users should be able to trust their message's authenticity and trust that the messages are not unsolicited bulk email, at least as much as they can trust the content of the messages themselves.
