📄 Project Abstract

Between July and September 2001 Dr. Brandon Bennett, Prof. Tony Cohn, Mr. Peter Mott, Dr. Stuart Roberts and David Anderton worked on a project to develop a basic spatial OLAP application for the Thames Water company [BCMR01-9]. The project raised many difficult questions about how to model, manipulate and store spatial data for use with an OLAP tool. This undergraduate project was designed to further research the area of spatial OLAP and in particular to explore some of the questions raised by the [BCMR01-4] [BCMR01-9] projects. The aim of this the project was to develop a spatial Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) Model for the Thames Water data set. Initially this was tackled by researching existing OLAP and spatial OLAP models. This information was then used to develop the most appropriate model which provided the basis for an OLAP tool. Finally the model was implemented as a Geographical Information System (GIS) - Relational Database (RDBMS) system.
