The establishment of Indigenous Christianity in Africa, Nigeria in particular, came into being through the initiative of the concerned indigenous Africans who reasoned that Christianity should better be expressed in the African perception and worldview, rather than the structure put in place by the Europeans. African indigenous churches are churches which started in Africa by Africans and for Africans. Though the first contact of Christianity in Nigeria was through the activities of the set of missionaries from Portugal in the fifteenth century (Ryder, 1969).1 The African indigenous churches were being established to combat racism and factionalism, 2 while also to bring together African Christians with the same mind or passion for worship in African worldview, 3as, it is to bring to an end the power of missionaries who became agents of colonialism. 4The African Indigenous Churches could be seen in three categories.
