THE IMPACT OF FOREIGN TRADE ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NIGERIA.
📄 Project Abstract
This study examines the impact foreign trade on economic growth in Nigeria using annual time series data ranging the period between 1981 and 2020 obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria.. The techniques employed are Augmented Dickey Fuller, Ordinary Least Square and Granger causality test. The ordinary least square revealed that exports did not meet expectations and had a negative impact on economic growth due to high inflation and an extreme increase in money supply. The result of the R2 shows that the model is a good fit. The Granger causality test indicated that among the variables included in the model all of them does not granger cause each other. The study suggests that government should take urgent action in regulating and restructuring its policies on foreign trade to further improve its contribution to the growth of the Nigerian economy.
