THE EFFECT OF REMITTANCE ON SELECTED MACROECONOMIC VARIABLES IN NIGERIA
📄 Project Abstract
Remittance flows to developing countries, to which Nigeria belong, has been on a steady increase in recent past. Whether this inflows culminates into economic growth or detrimental to major macroeconomic variables has been an issue of contention in literature. This research work, in an empirical attempt to justify the position of literature, carries out a study on Macroeconomic Impact of Remittance on Output Growth in Nigeria using a Two Stage Least Square (TSLS) with Impact and Dynamic Multipliers to test the short-run and long-run effect of Remittance on Output, Consumption, Investment and Import. The result shows that remittance impacts positively on the above macroeconomic variables exceptImport whose estimate is inconclusive and it becomes very difficult to state categoricallythe direction of impact of remittance on Import
