📄 Project Abstract

The aim of this project was to produce an algorithm that can accurately differentiate and count cancer cells in a given image. This has only recently become a possibility with new powerful glass slide scanners. This project evaluates existing solutions to the cell counting problem and details its own solution. The focus is on Tissue MicroArrays which are used by histopathologists for batch analysis of cancer patients. The algorithm is extended to fully automatically interpret a Tissue MicroArray where by it can count the number of cells on each core. Future enhancements to this algorithm are detailed at the end of this report. i
