📄 Project Abstract

In the Hollywood movie "Minority Report", the government can track the whereabouts of any member of the public with concealed eye recognition technology. This is the type of image people tend think of when surveillance is combined with Computer Vision. Far into the future this may become a reality, however computer vision has much, much more to offer society. This project aims to dispel some of the myths surrounding the subject. For the fear of the general public to lessen, they must understand what techniques are available and how these can be used to anonymously monitor behavioural patterns across a scene. In order to offer the public the opportunity to learn, a piece of software has been developed which includes several different aspects of computer vision for surveillance, including semantic region modelling and anomaly detection. Traditionally scenes have been modelled using a statistical approach based on trajectories of movement across a scene [2, 24], however this approach is p...
