📄 Project Abstract
The importance of the stock market as an economic institution, which promotes efficiency in capital formation and allocation cannot be overemphasised. The stock market is a common feature of a modern economy and it is reputed to perform some necessary functions, which promote the growth and development of the economy. The study examined the impact of stock market performance on economic growth in Nigeria, using specifically the stock market variables as explanatory variables and gross domestic product as dependent variable. Surveyed literature showed that these variables were considered to be the key importance in the determination of the impact stock market on economic growth. The study employed annual time serial data for 29 years period (1984 - 2012) collected from various issues of CBN' statistical Bulletin and Annual Report and Statement of Account of Nigeria Stock Exchange.
