Women's reproductive process has been socially constructed by medical sciences as "a pathological" "abnormal" and "unnatural" or at least in need of continual monitoring (Fausto & Sterling 1992; Riessman 1983; zita 1997, in Dillaway 2005). The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Human Development Report 2001 divides countries into three categories: 'high human development', 'medium human development' and 'low human development'. Countries are ranked by various health and economic indicators to show how they fare compared with others. Industrialized countries dominate the 'high human development' category characterized high life expectancy; low infant mortality rate, among children below 5; low maternal mortality. On the other hand, the statistic of these indices is also generally lower in the 'medium' than in the 'low' human development countries ( Gabe et al 2004).
