Human beings have always spent a great deal of time and effort attempting to improve their own health and that of others. In society, the medical profession is at the forefront of these attempts. Many other professions are also involved. They include: clinical and health psychologists, public health workers, and practitioners of complementary medicine, among others (Philippe & Karen, 2001). The need to improve on preventive health through screening had been championed by psychologists. Rosenstock, Hochbaum, Leventhal and Kegeles in 1950's in their study attempted to explain the widespread failure of people to take part in preventive health campaign, such as tuberculosis (Communication Initiative, 2003; Philippe & Karen, 2001), which gave birth to health belief model (HBM). Health belief model is defined by Green and Kreuter (1999) as a tool scientists use to try and predict health behaviours.
