📄 Project Abstract

The Natural Language Toolkit (NLTK) is an open source software package used for both learning and research in the field of natural language processing. It contains a range of tools and corpora, which this project aims to extend by contributing the "LOB" corpus, a British English version of the American English "Brown" corpus, which is already part of the toolkit. This report firstly examines the background behind NLTK and what it is used for, and then moves on to form a design and implementation of the software required to convert and integrate the "LOB" corpus into a compatible form which can be used as easily as the corpora already available. The converted dataset is then evaluated to assess the project's success as well as its performance within the toolkit in comparison to the already existing Brown corpus.
