One of the major benefits of being a world power is the ability to act independently of other nations or institutions especially when matters of national interest are concerned. The US engaged Iraq in a rather pre-emptive war in what, many scholars have argued, centred on oil. Be that as it may, such a unilateral action has implications for emergent powers like Nigeria. To this end, this study set for itself the task of evaluating the implications of the 2003 US - Iraq war on Nigerian foreign policy, as contained in the objectives which are, to ascertain whether the 2003 US-Iraq war has led to reduction in Nigeria's oil supply to the United States and to examine the Iraq war and security challenges in Nigeria. To generate relevant data for this study, we relied on observation technique.
