This research is a documentation of the history of the development and spread of Friday prayer mosques in Kano city, 1978-2016. Islam and the establishment of Friday prayer mosques in Kano city have a long history defined by clear objectives guided by rules and regulations. Specifically this study traces the major factors responsible for its development, spread and historical implications on the community in Kano city. It begins with a historical background demonstrating the introduction of Islam and the establishment of mosques in Kano. The sources used in this study are both primary and secondary. More specifically, interviews formed the major source in addition to a number of published and unpublished studies consulted. The study shows the importance of mosque as a center of observance of prayer and learning; of socioeconomic activities, and public interaction.
