📄 Project Abstract
The aim of this project is to investigate the nature of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) through analysis of the characteristics shown in journal articles. Research by Becher (1989) highlighted that significant differences can be seen in the literary output of disciplinary communities. Using the characteristics shown we shall place HCI on a disciplinary model presented by Biglan (1973a, 1973b). The project has achieved the aim through placement of HCI on Biglan's model. Using this we have discussed the implications with regard to the field and its position in the wider academic sphere. This placement should be of interest to academics from all disciplines concerned with HCI theory and practise as it has furthered disciplinary understanding in an area not previously researched
