Altruism is simply defined as helping behaviours which are actions designed to help others without obvious benefit to oneself (Huffman, 2007). People help and support one another by donating blood, giving time and money to charity, helping stranded motorists or strangers, rescuing, defending, etc. But there are other times when people do not help. It is one of the beautiful compensations of this life that no one can sincerely try to help another without helping himself (Post, 2002). There is abundant evidence that people have been interested in understanding the nature of pro-social behaviour for a long time (Niesta, 2011).
