📄 Project Abstract

Long-term therapeutic use of aspirin is associated with the incidences of nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity as a result of generation of free radicals. Although the mechanism by which aspirin causes liver alterations in certain individuals is not yet fully understood, and both the formation of a toxic metabolite and covalent binding of the drug to hepatic proteins have been invoked to explain its toxicity. In This study, we aimed to investigate the possible effect of aqueous extract of Date Fruit (AEDF) on aspirin-induced liver toxicity in male Wistar rats Twenty (20) adult Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups (groups A-D) containing 5 rats each. The control group (A) were treated with 5ml/kg body weight (b.wt.) of normal saline orally for 28 days, group B were treated with 140 mg/kg of Aspirin orally, group C were treated with 140 mg/kg of Aspirin after which they were treated with low dose Low dose AEDF (150mg/kg, orally) for 28 days, group D were treated with 140 mg/kg...
