Background: Leprosy sufferers have often described the experiences of denial of opportunities for social participation and economic advancement, and sometimes outright rejection by family members and the larger society. These experiences have implication for the psychological well-being of this group of people. Objectives: The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of depression and generalized anxiety disorder in leprosy patients, to compare the prevalence with the prevalence in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, and also to determine the associated socio-demographic/clinical factors and the association of stigma in the occurrence of depression and anxiety in leprosy patients.
