📄 Project Abstract

The phenomenon of absenteeism is one that cuts across small and large, public and private organizations. It has become a concern for both employee and employers alike. This study attempted to identify predictors of absenteeism among employees by obtaining data from two hundred and four (204) employees of both private and public organizations in Ogun and Lagos states. A survey design was utilised for data collection. The result revealed a significant positive relationship between work stress and absenteeism, (r = .16; p <.05); and between extroversion and absenteeism, (r = .18, p <.05). However, it was observed that there was no relationship between the core job characteristics and absenteeism except the dimension of skill variety where a significant and positive relationship was found (r = .18, p <.05).
