Music lessons are a popular pastime, particularly amongst school pupils (according to [16], 8% of compulsory school aged pupils received regular tuition in 2002), and drums are one of the most popular instruments to learn, along with more traditional instruments such as the violin and flute, and instruments popular in contemporary music such as the guitar and keyboard [16]. Typically, individual music lessons are a weekly event, with the time between lessons intended to be used for practicing. However, speaking from experience, it is often the case that practice is seen as something of a hassle, and is not performed as regularly as it could be. Without proper practice, learning a new instrument can be frustratingly slow, particularly when feedback is only received once a week.
