📄 Project Abstract

Salivary gland tumour is a common head and neck tumour said to constitute 2.8% to 10% of all head and neck tumours in certain African studies and 8.0% to 10.5% of all head and neck tumours in the Western World. However, there are not many histopathological studies addressing the issue. AIM This study was carried out to describe the morphologic pattern, age and sex distribution of salivary gland tumours in Jos. METHOD/MATERIALS This was a descriptive study of all histologically confirmed salivary gland tumours over a period of 10 years. Histologic classification was made based on the World Health Organization (WHO) classification of salivary gland tumours and staging done using the TNM staging according to the American Joint Committee for Cancer Staging (AJCC) RESULTS A total of 202 salivary gland tumours were diagnosed; 128 were benign, 74 were malignant constituting 63% and 37% respectively.
