“TOWARDS IMPROVING TEACHERS’ MORALE FOR INCREASED EFFECTIVENESS IN SCHOOLS IN ORLU EDUCATION ZONE”

ABSTRACT 

The study sets out to investigate on improving teachers’ morale for increased effectiveness in schools in Orlu Education Zone of Imo State. Four (4) research questions and three null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study at 0.05 level of significance. With the use of descriptive survey research design and simple random sampling techniques, the study sampled 150 opinions from the total of 486 teachers from public secondary schools in Orlu. An instrument with 4 points rating scale was developed for data collection. The instrument includes the perception of the respondents on the strategic measures for improving teachers’ morale for increased effectiveness in schools. The instrument underwent faced validation by three experts from faculty of education, university of Nigeria Nsukka. The research questions were analyzed using mean and standard deviation while t-test statistics was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study indicate the measures for improving teachers’ morale in schools. The measures include; adequate provision of computer system, laboratory equipment, and other needs. The findings also indicate that the major function of a school is to provide adequate needs to improve teachers’ morale in the school. This is because the teachers hold the key to the success of school effectiveness. The teachers when well encouraged and appreciated in schools will always work hard for increased effectiveness in schools..
