ABSTRACT
This study sought to examine teachers’ perception of management of primary schools by the Universal Basic Education Board in Anambra State. Four research questions and four null hypotheses guided the study and were tested at 0.05 level of significant, mean and standard deviation were used to provide answers to the research questions while t-test statistics was to test the four hypotheses. The design of the study was descriptive survey research design. The sample of the study was 678 respondents (226 head teachers and 452 classroom teachers) drawn with the use of multi stage sampling techniques. The researcher developed questionnaire titled Teachers’ Perception of Management of Primary Schools Questionnaire (TPMPSQ) to ascertain teachers’ perception of management of primary school by ASUBEB which was validated by three experts in Childhood Education in Educational Foundations, Measurement and Evaluation and Educational Management and Planning. Cluster and overall reliability scores of 0.87, 0.85, 0.83, 0.88 and 0.86 were obtained respectively for the instrument. Major findings of the study include that ASUBEB implements its staff management to a little extent, carries out its funding function to a little extent and supervisory function and provision of facilities to a little extent. Based on the findings, recommendations were made by the researcher which includes promotion of teachers, adequate funding and supervision, adequate staff management and good maintenance of facilities and improvement of general school conditions to promote effective teaching/learning in primary schools.
