MODALITIES FOR IMPROVING SUPERVISION OF INSTRUCTION IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ABAKALIKI EDUCATION ZONE OF EBONYI STATE

ABSTRACT

 The frequent poor quality of educational performance in Nigeria secondary schools has made educationist to question supervision of instruction. Therefore, this study is to determine the modalities for improving supervision of instruction in secondary schools in Abakaliki education zone of Ebonyi state. Five specific purposes are guiding this work, five research questions and two null hypotheses were posed to guide the study. Survey research design was adopted for the study. A structure questionnaire was developed by the researcher for both supervisors and teachers. The population of the study consists of 107 supervisors and 1712 teachers given the sum total of 1,819 supervisors and teachers. However, 214 were sampled for the study. The research instrument were faced validated by experts. The data collected were analyzed using simple percentage and mean. The major findings of the study show lack of qualified supervisors, poor funding of supervision are the major problems militating against effective supervision of instruction in secondary schools.
