KNOWLEDGE AND USE OF MOTIVATIONAL STRATEGIES IN TEACHING – LEARNING PROCESS AMONG TEACHERS IN NURSING PROGRAMMES IN SELECTED STATES SOUTH-EAST ZONE, NIGERIA.

ABSTRACT

 This descriptive study determined the Knowledge And Use Of Motivational Strategies In Teaching – Learning Process Among Teachers In Nursing Programmes In Selected States South-East Zone, Nigeria. Knowledge and effective usage of these motivational strategies will enhance effective teaching and learning. Population of study was 112 teachers in the selected states of the South-East. The states were randomly selected and the entire subjects used for the study. Questionnaire developed by the research was used to elicit data on the teachers’ demographic information, knowledge and usage of the motivational strategies in teaching learning process. Descriptive and Inferential statistical methods were employed to analyze the data generated from the respondents. The findings revealed that majority 104 (97.2%) of the respondents have heard about motivational strategies. Also, majority 104 (97.2%) indicated application of the strategies in their lessons. The most influencing factor on teachers’ use of these strategy was students’ need (M=3.40, SD=0.61. the ANOVA result further showed that there will be no significant difference in the use of motivational strategies when analyzed according to teaching experience (F=1.034, P>.05). it was recommended that teachers should maintain a good relationship with their students in a very conducive environment in order for learning to take place effectively, teachers should have deep understanding of the subject and assist the students to understand their talents for them to be motivated towards good academic achievements, and parents should also participate for removing the educational constraints of their children.
