To achieve the purpose of the study, nine specific objectives with corresponding research questions were posed, and six null hypotheses formulated. The descriptive survey design was employed for the study. The population for the study consisted of twenty nine thousand, nine hundred and twenty four (29,924) secondary school students of Obollo-Afor education zone of Enugu State. The sample of 395 of the secondary school students were selected for the study. The instrument for the data collection was the researcher structured questionnaire. Frequencies, percentages and Chi Square statistics were used for the data analysis. The major findings from the study revealed that: the secondary school students in the zone mostly engage in football (229_ 65.8%) during their recreation period. The students possess very high level of knowledge (80%_ above) of 4 of the safety precautions, average level of knowledge (40%_ 59%) of 1 and low level (21%_ 39%) of knowledge of 4 of the safety precautions. Some safety precautions like: not staying longer than necessary in an activity 316 (90.8%) and obeying the rules of the activity 296 (85.1%) are well practiced by the students while some like proper selection of activities 83 (23.8%) and wearing proper attire during recreational activities 108 (31.0%) are neglected by them. There were statistical significant differences in the knowledge of the safety precautions based on gender (58.802_ 11.070), school type (219.086_ 18.307), and school ownership (237.674_ 11.070). There were equally statistical significant differences in their practice of the safety precautions based on gender (24.154_ 11.070) and school type (28.236_ 18.307) but there was non based on school ownership (10.762_ 11.070).
