IMPROVING SCHOOL RECORDS MANAGEMENT IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN AWKA EDUCATION ZONE OF ANAMBRA STATE

Abstract 

 This study examined improving of school records management in secondary schools. Four research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. A survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consist of 2008 respondents made up of 40 principals, 1,676 teachers and 292 non-tutorial staff. The entire population of principals and non tutorial was used while 20 percent of teachers population was sampled. A structured questionnaire was developed. The research instrument was face validated by experts in Educational Administration and Planning and experts in the Department of Measurement and Evaluation, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Cronbach Alpha reliability was used to test for internal consistency with a co-efficient of 0.79. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the four research questions. While t-test statistic was used to test the three null hypotheses. The results of the study revealed that school records that are presently kept in secondary school shows registrar, look books and school time-table. The practices that characterized the keeping of school records includes monitor teachers adherence to proper record keeping. Recommendations were made bearing in mind the need for records management in secondary schools.
