EXTENT OF ADHERENCE OF THE GUIDELINES ON INSPECTORAL PRACTICES IN PRIMARY SCHOOL IN NSUKKA EDUCATION ZONE

ABSTRACT

 This study was designed to examine the extent of adherence of the guideline on inspectoral practices in primary schools in Nsukka education zone. Six research questions were formulated to guide the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population to be study is 1314 while 400 teachers were sampled out of the entire population. A structured questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The instrument was subjected to face validation by three experts. The reliability index of the instrument was calculated to be .90 using cronback alpha statistics method. Mean score and standard deviation were used to analyze the six research questions. The study revealed among others that (1) the responses of the respondents on extent do the objectives of inspection adhere to the guidelines (2) Extent funds provided for school inspection by the appropriate authorities. (3) What facilities are provided for primary school inspection.(4) Extent inspectoral duties performed in adherence to the guidelines. (5) Types of inspection carried out in primary schools in Nsukka education zone. (6) Finally, the possible constraints to school inspection. Therefore it was revealed that only item 5,8,19,26,27,28,29 and 30 have positive responses as a result interpreted positive because these mean value above criteria mean of 2.50 whereas order remaining items have below the mean criteria of 2.50 and were interpreted negative.
